Wine and roses weigela is a medium-sized shrub with dark burgundy-purple leaves. In early summer, bright pink flowers bloom on last year's wood. The bright flowers contrast nicely with the dark leaves.
This shrub needs regular moisture, so it might be a good selection for a planting bed that gets regular overspray from lawn sprinklers. It does not perform well in dry sites.
Wine and roses weigela has been moderately successful at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. It has remained quite small, never thriving. It might be worth trying in a moderate to high water area.
Prune out winter dieback as needed. It blooms on last year's wood, so do not shear.
