Sea holly is a perennial flower grown for its amazingly geometrical flowers. The shimmery blue flowers are composed of a cone surrounded by a ring of stiff, narrow bracts. The leaves grow as a basal rosette of heart-shaped leaves.
After flowering, the seedhead forms a round, textured ball, adding extra interest to the landscape.
Sea Holly has grown successfully for many years at the Xeriscape Garden. Some of the areas where is grew have been renovated recently. It is worth considering if you like the unusual flowers.
Cut old stalks and leaves to ground level in late winter.
