Maiden grass is an ornamental grass with arching leaves. Its leaves are rich green with a white rib running down the center of each leaf.

The clump is erect at the base and arching outward at the top. When the growing season is long and hot enough for it to flower, it produces flowerheads with many fingers.

Maiden grass requires more regular moisture than other ornamental grasses at the Xeriscape Garden, but makes a nice mass or accent plant.

Maiden grass has performed well at the Xeriscape Garden in areas where it gets regular moisture. Some years, the growing season is long enough for it to flower. In other years, cool fall weather or early fall frosts prevent flowering.

In early spring, cut the old growth to ground level.
