Dwarf wild blue indigo is an attractive smaller version of wild blue indigo. It has the same beautiful oval leaflets. Like the larger variety, the stems arch into a uniform vase shape.
It has spikes of dark blue (almost purple) flowers in early summer. Dwarf wild blue indigo is a good choice where the larger version will be too large.
There is one dwarf wild blue indigo planted at the Xeriscape Garden. The leaves and overall shape create a beautiful, cold-hardy plant.
Cut the stems to ground level in late winter or early spring. This plant a large taproot, so don't try to divide or move after planting.
