Autumn joy sedum is a perennial flower grown for its late season color. The succulent stems and leaves grow in an upright clump. In August, the reddish-pink flowers bloom in dense clusters on top of the stalks. As the flowers age, they turn a coppery red color.
It is a good plant for adding late summer and fall interest to a landscape. It is also very low maintenance.
Autumn joy sedum is growing moderately well in the low water zone at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. It has never reached its full size, remaining surprisingly short. It grows well in other locations throughout Colorado Springs, so it is worthy of consideration.
Remove old growth in early spring before new growth starts.
